- Overview
What is a Rhinoplasty?
The nose sits at the very centre of the face. It is the first feature the eye is drawn to, the anchor around which every other facial proportion is measured and the single feature that — when it feels out of harmony with the rest of the face — can affect your confidence in a way that is difficult to fully articulate. For many people, dissatisfaction with the nose has been a quiet, persistent presence for most of their lives.
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is the surgical reshaping and refinement of the nose to bring it into greater harmony with the surrounding facial features. It is one of the most technically demanding procedures in aesthetic surgery — requiring not just surgical skill but a deep understanding of facial proportion, aesthetic balance and the complex three-dimensional structure of the nose itself.
Dr. Orman is one of Istanbul’s most sought after rhinoplasty surgeons and a member of the Rhinoplasty Society of Europe — a recognition reserved for surgeons who have demonstrated an exceptional level of expertise and commitment to this specific procedure. His approach to rhinoplasty is rooted in one principle above all others: the result should look like your nose, refined — not a different nose entirely.
Every rhinoplasty at Dr. Orman’s clinic begins with an in-depth conversation about what you see, what bothers you and what you want to achieve. The result is then designed entirely around your facial anatomy, your ethnic identity and the proportions that will look most natural and harmonious on your unique face.
Facial Harmony
A rhinoplasty designed around your unique facial proportions brings the nose into balance with the rest of your features — improving the overall harmony of your entire face.
Natural Results
Dr. Orman's philosophy is that a rhinoplasty should refine the nose you have rather than replace it with a different one. The result should look entirely natural — never operated on.
Lifetime Results
Rhinoplasty delivers permanent results. Once fully healed the refined nose is yours for life — no maintenance, no repeat procedures, no ongoing commitment.
Artistic Precision
Rhinoplasty is as much an artistic procedure as a surgical one. Dr. Orman brings both technical mastery and an instinctive eye for proportion to every nose he operates on.
Functional Improvement
Where breathing difficulties are present alongside cosmetic concerns, rhinoplasty can address both simultaneously — improving function and aesthetics in a single procedure.
- Who Is Suitable
Is rhinoplasty right for you?
Rhinoplasty is one of the most life changing procedures in facial aesthetic surgery — but it works best for specific candidates with specific concerns and realistic expectations. Here is what Dr. Orman looks for when assessing suitability.
Good candidates are typically:
- Over 18 years of age and have fully completed facial growth and development
- In good general health with no unmanaged underlying medical conditions
- Non-smokers or willing to stop smoking well in advance of surgery
- Bothered by specific aspects of the nose — such as the bridge, tip, width, asymmetry or overall size — that affect facial harmony
- Experiencing breathing difficulties alongside or instead of cosmetic concerns
- Holding realistic expectations about what rhinoplasty can achieve and understanding that the goal is improvement and harmony rather than perfection
- Motivated by their own desire for change rather than external pressure
- Prepared for a longer recovery timeline than most other aesthetic procedures — with final results taking up to 12 months to fully reveal themselves
You may wish to wait if:
- You are under 18 and your facial growth is not yet complete
- You are seeking revision rhinoplasty following a previous procedure — in which case a minimum of 12 months should have passed since your last surgery
- You smoke and are not willing to stop well in advance of and following surgery
- You have unrealistic expectations about achieving a specific other person's nose rather than the best version of your own
- You have unmanaged health conditions that may affect anaesthesia or healing
- You are going through a period of significant emotional change or uncertainty about your decision
- The Procedure
What happens during your rhinoplasty procedure?
Rhinoplasty is one of the most technically complex procedures in facial aesthetic surgery. Dr. Orman performs both open and closed rhinoplasty techniques, selecting the most appropriate approach for your specific anatomy and goals. Here is a step by step overview of what to expect.

Consultation & Planning
Before surgery, Dr. Orman conducts an in-depth consultation to assess your nasal anatomy, facial proportions and the specific changes you want to address. Digital imaging may be used to help visualise potential outcomes and ensure your vision and Dr. Orman's surgical plan are fully aligned before proceeding.

Anaesthesia
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia in an internationally accredited private hospital in Istanbul. You will be completely comfortable and unaware throughout the entire procedure.

Approach Selection
Dr. Orman selects the most appropriate surgical approach for your case. In an open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made across the columella — the narrow strip of tissue between the nostrils — allowing full access to the nasal structures. In a closed rhinoplasty all incisions are made inside the nostrils with no external scarring. The choice depends entirely on the complexity of the changes required.

Structural Reshaping
Working with the bone and cartilage of the nose, Dr. Orman carefully reshapes the nasal structure to achieve the planned result. This may involve reducing or refining the bridge, reshaping or repositioning the tip, narrowing the nostrils, straightening the nose or addressing any combination of these elements depending on your specific goals.

Functional Correction
Where breathing difficulties are present, the nasal septum and internal nasal structures are addressed simultaneously during the same procedure — ensuring both the cosmetic and functional goals are achieved together.

Closing and Splinting
All incisions are carefully closed and a small splint is applied to the outside of the nose to support and protect the newly shaped structures during the initial healing period. Internal splints or packing may also be used depending on the specifics of your procedure.
- The Recovery
What to expect during your rhinoplasty recovery.
Rhinoplasty has a longer recovery timeline than most other aesthetic procedures — largely because the nose takes time to fully reveal its final shape as swelling gradually resolves over many months. Understanding this timeline in advance is one of the most important parts of having a positive rhinoplasty experience.
Timeline:
Days 1–3
Swelling, bruising around the eyes and nose and a feeling of nasal congestion are completely normal. Pain is well managed with prescribed medication. The splint remains in place and you will rest in Istanbul under medical supervision with the head kept elevated as much as possible to reduce swelling.
Week 1–2
The external splint is typically removed at around day 7 to 10. Bruising around the eyes begins to fade. Swelling is still significant at this stage but the early shape of the new nose becomes visible. Most patients feel well enough to move around comfortably. You will attend a follow-up appointment with Dr. Orman before returning home.
Week 2–4
Most of the visible bruising has resolved. Swelling continues to reduce and the nose begins to look more natural and defined. Most patients feel comfortable returning to social situations from around week 3 though residual swelling is still present.
Month 1–3
Significant further reduction in swelling occurs during this period. The nose looks noticeably more refined and the result becomes increasingly apparent. Strenuous exercise and any activity that risks impact to the nose should be avoided until cleared by Dr. Orman.
Month 3–12
The final stages of swelling resolve very gradually during this period — particularly at the nasal tip which is the last area to fully settle. The nose continues to refine and improve in appearance throughout this time.
Final Results
Final rhinoplasty results are fully visible at around 12 months post-surgery once all residual swelling has completely resolved. The naturally refined, harmonious nose you and Dr. Orman designed together is now fully revealed.
Activities to avoid during recovery:
- Wearing glasses that rest on the nose for at least 6 to 8 weeks
- Blowing the nose forcefully for at least 3 to 4 weeks
- Strenuous exercise for at least 4 to 6 weeks
- Any activity that risks impact or trauma to the nose
- Smoking throughout the entire recovery period
- Exposing the nose to direct sunlight without SPF for at least 12 months
- Swimming for at least 6 weeks
The nose does not define your beauty. But when it feels in harmony with your face, everything else falls into place.
- Why Rhinoplasty
A nose that feels like it was always meant to look this way.
The most successful rhinoplasty is the one that nobody notices — because the result looks entirely, naturally you.
Perfect Facial Harmony
Bringing the nose into proportion with the rest of the face improves the overall harmony of every single feature — often making a more significant difference to overall appearance than patients expect.
Permanent Results
Rhinoplasty delivers results that last a lifetime. Once fully healed the refined nose requires no maintenance, no follow up procedures and no ongoing commitment of any kind.
Functional and Aesthetic Together
Where breathing difficulties are present, rhinoplasty addresses both concerns simultaneously — improving how the nose functions and how it looks in a single procedure.
Specialist Expertise
Dr. Orman's membership of the Rhinoplasty Society of Europe and his extensive experience performing this specific procedure places him among the leading rhinoplasty surgeons in the region.
Confidence That Lasts
Patients consistently describe rhinoplasty as one of the most confidence-transforming procedures they have ever had — not because the change is dramatic, but because the result finally feels right.

- FAQs
Everything you need to know before taking the next step.
We understand that choosing a surgeon is one of the most important decisions you will make. Here are the answers to the questions we hear most often.
Final rhinoplasty results take approximately 12 months to fully reveal themselves as swelling resolves very gradually — particularly at the nasal tip. Significant improvement is visible from around month 3 but the true final result requires patience. This is one of the most important things to understand before having a rhinoplasty and Dr. Orman discusses this in detail during every consultation.
In a closed rhinoplasty all incisions are made inside the nostrils — leaving no external scarring. In an open rhinoplasty a small additional incision is made across the columella, the narrow strip between the nostrils, to allow greater access to the nasal structures. Dr. Orman selects the most appropriate technique for your specific anatomy and the complexity of the changes required.
Yes. Where breathing difficulties are caused by a deviated septum or other structural issues, these can be addressed simultaneously during the same rhinoplasty procedure. Combining cosmetic and functional correction in a single operation is very common and Dr. Orman will assess your breathing as part of your overall consultation.
Most patients report that rhinoplasty is significantly less painful than they expected. Discomfort is well managed with prescribed pain medication. The most common complaint in the early days is the feeling of nasal congestion and pressure rather than pain itself. Dr. Orman's team will ensure you are comfortable throughout your recovery in Istanbul.
Glasses that rest on the nose bridge should be avoided for at least 6 to 8 weeks after surgery as they can place pressure on the healing nasal structures and affect the final result. Contact lenses can be worn as soon as you feel comfortable. Dr. Orman will advise on the specific timeline for your case.
The minimum age for rhinoplasty is typically 18 years — the point at which facial growth is considered complete for most patients. Operating before growth is complete risks the procedure affecting the ongoing development of the nose. Dr. Orman assesses each patient individually and confirms suitability during your consultation.
Cost depends on the specific elements of your treatment plan and the complexity of the procedure. Dr. Orman provides fully transparent, all-inclusive pricing during your consultation covering surgery, hospital fees, accommodation, transfers and aftercare with no hidden costs.
